Home based pregnancy test works by detecting the presence of HCG in the female body. HCG hormone or the Human Chorionic Gonadotropin is present in the female placenta soon after an egg which has been fertilized has placed itself in the uterine wall. After a period of six days the level of HCG increases in the blood and henceforth after every two days it goes on increasing at a very fast pace. Moreover the expiry of the test strips should also be taken into consideration. One which has crossed the date of expiry should not be used for a pregnancy test.

Testing of the first urine of the morning gives the best results because that has high content of HCG. Moreover as the day advances the urine may get diluted with intake of other fluids. Although the pharmaceutical shops say that urine collected at any part of the day can give best of results. But it is advisable that a woman should collect her first urine in the morning for carrying out a pregnancy test.

In certain cases one might think that she is pregnant but might get negative results in that case she must go for a second test. This is because concentration of HCG varies from one female to other. In cases where a woman misses her period and pregnancy test is also negative one should consult a doctor.
