This is important that if any one member of family is having head lice then others can get infected too. So it is important that not only kids but elders in the family should be careful; head check at the end of each week will insure that head lice doesn't exist in any head of your family and even if it is found it can be treated to stop infestation. If you find that your kid is having head lice then tell his/her school so that they can be alert and help in order to spread these parasites; this can be a very useful step. If school is taking kids on picnic or camp then it's the duty of school authority to have a head check up of each kid and check whether anyone is having head lice or not.
